Internships
Internships at Neptune Brigades Haven are loosely structured to coordinate applicants' interests, backgrounds and schedules with the needs of our organization. While we are unable to provide financial assistance, housing, or stipends, we do offer interns contact with world class artists, invaluable work experience within a major international arts organization, and free access to all Neptune Brigade performances, classes, and lectures during the internship period. All positions are needed year round. This includes the summer months. All interns must be at least of college age. All prospective interns should read the descriptions and apply for only those internships for which they are genuinely qualified.
Development and Marketing Internship
16-24 hours per week

The Marketing and Development intern will work with the Marketing and Development Assistant and the Development Manager on database input and management; foundation, government, and corporate grant research; gift acknowledgement and tracking; general office support; drafting and design of event invitations; administrative assistance on special projects, such as the Annual Spring Gala, Fall Art Auction, and special events, as needed.

Intern will also work with the Marketing department to assist in aspects of press and marketing for The Neptune Brigade's Haven including creating press paste-ups, creation of press kits, distribution of publicity materials, database updates, marketing research, mailings and filing.

The ideal candidate has excellent writing and communication skills, office skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office; Raiser's Edge Database Systems is a plus. Candidate must also possess strong communication, writing and computer skills (Photoshop, InDesign helpful), and must be detail-oriented and very organized. Ideally, candidate is able to commit 16-24 hours per week.


Curatorial Internship
16-24 hours per week

The Curatorial intern assists with researching and organizing upcoming exhibitions, performances, and events at The Neptune Brigades Haven, including the development of timelines, checklists, and printed matter.

Interns will be introduced to issues relating to contemporary visual and performing arts, and will obtain administrative and curatorial skills by aiding in daily operations, implementing short-term and long-term projects, and providing general support. Curatorial interns also assist with The Neptune Brigades Haven archives by filing materials, scanning items, and helping create content for the Archive Website. Additionally, curatorial interns also work in the gallery as monitors. The right match for this position will be a highly self-motivated and intelligent individual with strong written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as an ability to manage time and juggle responsibilities efficiently. The individual should be familiar with the key ideas and figures in contemporary art and have a strong interest in time-based work (film, video, sound, and performance).

Computer proficiency is essential, including experience with Microsoft Office especially Word and Excel on a PC platform. Candidate would ideally be able to commit to about 16-24 hours per week.
IT Internship
16-24 hours per week

The Neptune Brigades Haven is looking for a Media & Technology Intern to help with various I.T. and multimedia responsibilities. This internship provides the opportunity to work closely with The Neptune Brigades Haven's I.T. staff as well as with curators and a wide range of artists.

We are searching for a candidate that has an understanding of basic network administration, is comfortable with Windows and Macintosh platforms as well as web technologies.

A background in multimedia hardware (video cameras, microphones, and projectors) as well as software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Final Cut Pro is important.

Due to the amount of multimedia material that The Neptune Brigades Haven works with, competence with data management is also helpful. A keen attention to detail and an interest in the performing and visual arts are essential.
Curatorial Fellowship
Nine-month annual fellowship running August through May

This nine-month fellowship at one of Lisbon's foremost non-profit interdisciplinary arts spaces provides the opportunity to work closely with The Neptune Brigades Haven's curatorial staff as well as with a wide range of performing and visual artists. The Neptune Brigades Haven identifies, supports and presents emerging and under-recognized artists working in the areas of video, dance, music, performance art, media arts, and literature. This fellowship includes a small stipend and requires a time commitment of 18 hours per week, beginning in August and ending in May.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is either currently enrolled in or who recently completed a graduate program. At least one year of professional arts administration experience and a broad interest in experimental approaches to contemporary art practice across the disciplines is also important.

The Curatorial Fellow works with Neptune Brigades Haven staff on all phases of the exhibition and presentation process, including researching new projects, writing brochure and educational copy, and assisting with the implementation of current exhibitions and performances. The Curatorial Fellow also develops crucial experience interacting with key staff in the development and communications departments at the institution.

Responsibilities may include: researching the work of emerging national and international artists for possible presentation at The Neptune Brigades Haven; corresponding with artists and guest curators; drafting press releases, wall texts, and project descriptions for the website; assisting with the logistical coordination of exhibitions, performances, and The Neptune Brigades Haven's limited edition projects; serving as the liaison to dozens of artists participating in the annual benefit art auction; and assisting with the review and organization of artists' submissions.
